Your Time is Valuable

This course will help you grow your leadership skill and increase you impact. There's a lot of content packed into this fast-paced, six session course. In each live, 1 hour session, we'll dive deeply into a single leadership topic (see the full course syllabus below). Sessions typically consist of a lecture, a small group exercise and follow-up discussion. The interactive sessions are held via Zoom and are recorded in case you miss a class.  

 

Students will receive all course materials including session recordings, presentations, exercises, recommended readings, and quick reference guides for each topic.

 

You'll create your own "Leadership Log" to apply and retain course learnings.

Course Logistics

This fast-paced, 6-session course is offered:

  • Wednesdays, noon - 1pm PST
  • November 4 - December 16
  • No class November 25th (U.S. Thanksgiving week)

Course Syllabus

Session 1  

BUILDING YOUR EXECUTIVE PRESENCE

  • What is it and how do you do it?
  • Developing the necessary mindset, skills and delivery
  • Stoking a reinforcing cycle of Competence and Confidence
  • Techniques to prepare and use 'in the moment'
  • Exercise:  Preparing for peak performances

 

Session 2  

DELEGATING AND COACHING FOR DEVELOPMENT AND PERFORMANCE

  • Delegation: A win-win-win when it works
  • When to delegate? To whom? How?
  • Overcoming fear, confusion and the need for control
  • Coaching for performance using the GROW model
  • Exercise:  Finding an extra 20% to delegate

 

Session 3 

RECEIVING AND GIVING FEEDBACK

  • The neuroscience of feedback
  • Fostering an environment of feedback in all directions
  • Receiving and accepting feedback
  • Giving feedback that will be heard and acted upon
  • Exercise:  Practicing productive, healthy giving and receiving

 

Session 4  

MANAGING CONFLICT 

  • Managing your mindset and controlling your emotions
  • Knowing your conflict style - and those of your colleagues
  • Adjusting your style for productive outcomes
  • Exercise:  Let's fight!  Conflict in action

 

Session 5  

MAXIMIZING TEAM EFFECTIVENESS

  • Hiring the right people and creating an inclusive culture
  • Creating and communicating a compelling vision

  • Understanding the behaviors of Multipliers and Diminshers

Instructors

Tracy Wilk

Tracy Wilk is an executive coach and leadership speaker following more than 30 years in leadership positions at some of the most innovative and influential tech and fintech companies in the world including Visa and Google. Tracy held roles in product management, marketing, finance and venture investing. During his tenure at Google, he was fortunate to learn and apply Google’s innovative people management practices both in leading his own teams as well as a volunteer “Leadership Guru” to Google staff around the globe. Tracy was named a Google “Great Manager”, an award granted to fewer than 1% of all Google managers since the origin of the company. Tracy earned his BA and MBA from University of California, Berkeley.

JeanAnn Nichols

JeanAnn is an executive mentor and leadership coach who specializes in supporting senior women to advance in the tech industry. An accomplished executive with more than 30 years of diverse professional experience, she has led a variety of global functions in Fortune 500 companies —including engineering, product design, manufacturing, marketing, sales, communications, and IT operations. JeanAnn earned an MBA from Santa Clara University and a BSc Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois.
